Burn Rome in a Dream formed in Toronto, Ontario, Canada in the summer of 1997 under the name Holding Pattern, defining themselves in vague opposition to the somewhat muscular hardcore then predominant in their suburban scene. The evolution of their craft has seen them move away from early experiments with vocals and keyboards, to a more focused exploration of the guitar-bass-drums dynamic.
